OUR VISION & BELIEFS

OUR VISION

TO BE THE EXPRESSION OF CHRIST IN EVERYDAY REAL LIFE!

OUR STORY

Expression Church was founded in 2013 by Senior Pastor Kevin West and a team that had a desire to experience God in everyday life. The heart was to create a culture where individuals not only joined in with the body of Christ, but that those same people took what God had placed in them to their work places, homes, businesses and their spheres of influence.

The vision of Expression is to be the expression of Christ in everyday real life. We accomplish that by identifying the gift that is inside of every person. We affirm that gift that it was designed and given by God. We then equip those to go out into the world that God has called them to and release them to do the work of the ministry.

Recently, Expression Church purchased eleven acres of property on the west end of Huntington, WV that is called Commerce Park. In August of 2017 construction was complete on our new home.

We believe the bible is the inspired word of God.

(2 TIMOTHY 3.16; I PETER 1:25; 2 PETER 1:21)

We believe in one God expressed as the Father, the Son and the holy spirit. He’s perfectly holy, just, loving and faithful and true

(MATTHEW 28:19; JOHN 1:14; ACTS 5:3-4; 2 CORINTHIANS 13:14; COLOSSIANS 1:15-20;HEBREWS 1:1-3; REVELATION 1:4-6)

We believe in the virgin birth and the deity of Jesus Christ, that he was fully God and fully man.

(MATTHEW 1:23; JOHN 1:14)

We believe that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. (JOHN 3:16; TITUS 2:14) We believe that man, created in the image of God, by voluntary disobedience fell into the depths of sin. (GENESIS 1:27; ROMANS 5:12)

BECAUSE OF ADAM’S ACT OF SIN, SICKNESS, DEATH AND JUDGMENT ENTERED INTO THE WORLD.

We believe that the saving of our souls is wholly through grace, not by works. We believe in the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. We believe that these things were to establish the new covenant between God and man. (ROMANS 10:6-10; 1 JOHN 1:9)

The new covenant does not give permission to excuse sin, but it is the empowerment to live free from sin knowing a believer is under the power of grace and not the power of the law. (ROMANS 8:1, ROMANS 6:14, GALATIONS 2:21, TITUS 3:5, 2 CORINTHIANS 5:17-21)

We believe we are fully accepted through the blood of Jesus and presented to God as righteous because of Jesus’ righteousness. (ROMANS 3:20-31)

We believe in the return of Jesus Christ both personal and imminent. We believe there is a place of eternal peace and rest prepared for those that have accepted salvation through Jesus Christ. We refer to this place as heaven. All others that do not accept salvation will reside in a place of everlasting death. (MATTHEW 24:36, 1 THESSALONIANS 4:16-17)

We believe in the sacramental blessing of water baptism by immersion. Those baptizing in the scriptures were baptizing in the delegated authority of the Lord Jesus Christ and those being baptized are because their sins have been forgiven.

(MATTHEW 28:19; ACTS 2:38; ACTS 10:48

We believe in the sacramental blessing of communion taken often to remember the sacrifice of Christ and how he unites the believers in him.

(1 CORINTHIANS 11:20-33)

We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit. (ACTS 1:5, ACTS 10:44-46, ACT 19:1-6)

We believe in the spirit led life that allows believers to walk in the spirit moment by moment. (GALATIONS 5:16-25, EPHESIANS 4:30-32, EPHESIANS 5:18).

We believe that the Holy Spirit bestows different ministry gifts upon believers. (1 CORINTHIAN 12:1-11).

We believe the job of every believer is to establish God’s kingdom of righteousness, joy and peace in the holy spirit here on the earth. That is accomplished through team-centered leadership

(EPHESIANS 4:10-12, 1 CORINTHIANS 12:27-28)

We believe a responsibility of mature believers is to raise spiritual sons and daughters to walk in unity in building the kingdom. We believe this will be accomplished by instilling a heart of parenthood into maturing believers to avoid competition with new converts.

(1CORINTHIANS 4:15-17, JOHN 17)

We believe the churches role is to identify, affirm, equip and release individuals into their specific assignment here on earth. The church is to cultivate and release the true expression of God’s presence into every area of society. The result of a healthy church is heaven’s culture coming to earth.

(MATTHEW 16:16-19, EPHESIANS 4:10-12)

(MATTHEW 16:16-19, EPHESIANS 4:10-12)

IDENTIFY

Our vision is derived from the story of when Jesus was being baptized by John the Baptist. In this moment, we see the true activation of every believer. When Jesus came out of the water, God spoke from heaven “This is my son.” This identified him. Within every person is a unique gift that God has placed in them and makes them uniquely them. Our job is to identify that “gift” as we become deeper in relationship with one another. This identifies who they are to God and to others.

AFFIRM

After God spoke “This is my Son,” he said something that was crucial. “In whom I am well pleased.” This affirmed Jesus not only as God’s Son, but that he was approved by the Father. This was before He ever performed any miracles. God was already pleased with Him. Our job as a church family, is once we have identified that gift in an individual to begin to affirm that gift and the individual by teaching that God is pleased with them. That they are coming from a place of approval not condemnation.

EQUIP

Following Jesus’ baptism, the Bible says that He was then led into the wilderness to be tempted. This was His equipping time. This time is when our gifts and character are tested and forced to grow. We as a church are mandated to equip the saints to do the work of the ministry. We have found that some of the greatest equipping tools we have are one another.

RELEASE

At the completion of Jesus’ tempting in the desert, He was then released into society to showcase what can be accomplished when God and man’s heart align. Our true ministry is not only within the four walls of our sanctuary, but on our jobs, in our schools, and in our homes. When we showcase what life can be through the power of the Holy Spirit we truly become the expression of Christ in everyday real life.
